“Victory” comes in various shapes and sizes. It could be reaching a fitness goal, dropping your handicap a few strokes, getting a promotion at work, or many other triumphs that make life so wonderful. But for the millions of women fighting breast cancer, the most meaningful victory often comes from winning the difficult fight against this life changing disease.

According to BreastCancer.org, “an estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. in 2015,” with the disease affecting nearly 1 in 8 women in their lifetime.

This issue hits so close to home for so many of us. We realize the importance of showing our support for the strong mothers and daughters, sisters and friends in our lives and around the community fighting the good fight.

That’s why we’d like to invite you to join the Breast Cancer Warriors of Verrado at their First Annual Breast Cancer Warriors Walk and 5k on Saturday, October 10, 2015. The group, which includes over 15 members of the Verrado community, was founded by Marje Newman of Verrado in 2014, and works to support one another as well as to raise awareness.

Registration for the walk and 5k begins at 8:00AM at The Big Patio at Victory, with the walk and run kicking off at 8:45. The course will be on the 3.0 mile Red Loop of the Avid Trail at Victory (note that additional length will be added to reach 5k distance). Registration is free and there will be great door prizes available from wonderful sponsors. Friends and family are welcome, so be sure to bring them along. So, in the words of the Warriors, please join us while “we walk or run to support the fighters, admire the survivors, honor the taken, and to never, ever give up hope.” See you on the trail to Victory.
