This October, husband and wife team Steve and Karen Maynard will happily celebrate the second anniversary of their contemporary urban bistro on Main Street in Verrado. “Tempo Urban Bistro has stayed true to our brand and the community we call home,” said chef Steve Maynard. “Our vision was to create an eclectic, yet approachable lunch and dinner experience inherently unique to the West Valley, featuring fresh produce from local farmers.” To underscore that theme, Maynard is rolling out a series of Winemakers dinner experiences. “We are presenting culinary evenings that feature diverse cuisine and geographic regions. Each course is accompanied by my description of each dish, and why each wine was selected to accompany the course,” he added.
August’s Winemaker evening on Sunday, August 16 at 6 p.m. is themed “Wine and Swine”, featuring bacon and pork delicacies for $50 per person. Five mouthwatering courses, each paired with a wine from the Pacific Northwest, will include:
First Course
Surf and Turf pork belly scallop and Ahi tuna steak with Korean barbecue sauce
Second Course
Braised pork ravioli with brown butter pork jus, cracklin’
Third Course
Parma ham wrapped monkfish with sun-dried tomato and basil oil
Fourth Course
Pork two ways: bacon-wrapped tenderloin and braised pork cheeks with red wine reduction, roasted parsnip and sweet pea puree
Fifth Course
S’mores with bacon brittle ice cream

Reservations for these one-of-a-kind evenings are required, with payment in advance
Upcoming dinners this fall will feature beer pairings. “We are working on a wild game dinner featuring local favorite, San Tan Brewery in September and an Octoberfest theme to follow,” Maynard said.
For coffee enthusiasts, Tempo’s adjoining Coffee Bar remains open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. for traditional cappuccinos, lattes, smoothies, grab-and-go breakfast sandwiches and late night desserts.
“When you arrive at our doorstep, you are greeted by a hometown feeling here,” Maynard added. “Karen and I are extremely proud that our concept has been so well received, allowing us to grow to our team to nearly 30 people that represent the heart of our brand.”
