There’s something to be said for a mom-and-pop business that stays in the family for more than 30 years, while growing into one of the most successful enterprises in Arizona, even through the worst of economic times.
The family is the Newlons. The business is Pioneer Title Agency. And, most surprising in today’s climate, the industry is real estate.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Bob Newlon found early success in the title business. Eager to follow in his father’s footsteps, son Keith landed a similar job with a title company after graduating from Northern Arizona University in 1979.
By 1985, Keith was ready to spread his wings. With the help of his parents, he and his wife Cindy founded Pioneer Title Agency with an initial mission of providing exceptional service to Arizona’s smaller communities, or secondary markets. However, when the recession took hold of Arizona, Keith saw many of his industry peers go out of the title business and lose their jobs. He and his team were motivated to act.
Today, the company remains 75 percent focused on smaller cities and towns, growing to more than 400 team members in more than 35 cities and 14 counties throughout Arizona. And its newest branch is based in Verrado.
The Buckeye branch opened in the Davis building this past October with area resident Lesa Connell, business development manager; Linda Burton and Dee Dee Nadeau, both escrow officers; and Allyson Silveus, escrow assistant.
“Our services are broad and range from title insurance, title insurance background checks, homeowner’s policies and trustee’s sale guarantees to judicial guarantee reports, escrow services, developer services, land acquisition title research and insurance, construction loan title services and more,” said Connell.
“Pioneer Title Agency has operated under the philosophy of a ‘Commitment to Service’ since 1985, which also means a commitment to service within each of our local communities,” said Connell. “From sponsoring local sports teams to organizing fundraising walks to simply donating to causes near and dear to our hearts, Pioneer empowers and supports its team members to be active members of the communities where they work and live.”
Case in point: Pioneer recently completed its 30th anniversary “Take a Hike” initiative, wherein team members collectively hiked, biked, ran and rode all 800 miles of the Arizona National Scenic Trail. In addition, the company set a goal of raising at least $30,000 to support the trail through the initiative, and far exceeded it, donating more than $45,000 to support the Arizona Trail Association and its mission to maintain and protect the Arizona Trail.
On top of that, Pioneer has donated more than $600,000 to nearly 250 other Arizona nonprofits and associations over the past few years alone.
Connell and the entire team welcome their neighbors to join them for two upcoming events, designed to ignite more good works within the community of Verrado.
