Although the Verrado High School in Buckeye didn’t win the contest for a free concert by pop star Katy Perry last month, they are still receiving a great deal of acknowledgement and accolades for their inspiring video.

Verrado High School was roaring and thrilled when they were chosen as one of five finalists as part of a national contest to have Perry perform at their school. A school in Colorado was announced the winner, but Katy Perry invited Arizona student, Megan Squire and her friends, to celebrate with her at an event where she would be performing. And the excitement for Megan didn’t stop there.

It was announced yesterday that Megan has been invited to be Katy Perry’s special guest at the American Music Awards on Sunday. Megan and her friends will be attending the AMAs at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, where Perry will perform.

The Verrado High School video that started it all stars Megan Squire, a school cheerleader who has overcome the challenges of Down syndrome. She has been a cheerleader at the high school for four years.

The community is thrilled for Megan to have this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
