Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman to Speak at Verrado Community Center

Verrado Community Center is hosting a motivational talk from Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman this Saturday at Vitras Swim Club at 12 p.m. Verrado residents and non-residents will have the opportunity to hear Hyman’s inspirational story and ask her questions about her Olympic success.

Famous for her impressive win against Australia’s Susie O’Neil, Hyman now motivationally speaks on her Olympic accomplishments. A Phoenix native, Hyman will share her Olympic stories and the hard work it took to reach the top of during her swimming career. Not only did Hyman’s win secure her the second fastest win for the 200 meter butterfly race in Olympics history, but she also inspired a nation with her determination and athleticism.

Hyman’s career spreads all the way to high school where she attended Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix where she was named the high school Swimmer of the Year in 1995 and 1996 and broke records in 100 meter fly, 100 meter back and 200 meter medley relay. She continued her career in college where she competed on the Stanford University Swim Team winning All American 28 times. She was also named the NCAA Swimmer of the Year in 1998. Over the past 12 years, Hyman has been coaching swimming clinics and sharing tips on her incredible career.
