Farm to Table Talk: Superfoods, Organics & YouRadishes, kale, beets, oh yah! The weather is cooling down and that means Farmers Market Season is open. When it comes to eating local and organic, it’s important to educate yourself on what’s hype and what’s real. Which has more nutrients, spinach or kale? Are organics really worth the extra cost? If you’re on a budget, maybe some foods are more important to buy organic than others? Since we have so many questions on the subject, we thought it was timely to bring in an expert to give us the real scoop.

Being better educated helps us make better decisions at the upcoming farmers market and CSA’s. Get in the know, see you at the Verrado Coffee Company then it’s off to Market!

Farmers Markets

We love to spend Sunday mornings in the fall at the Wigwam Farmers Market. Bountiful fruits and vegetables, fine art, fresh baked breads and artisan cheeses keep us coming back for more every week. The market opens November 9th and runs through April 19th. In the spring, the Verrado Farmers Market will return to the Village Commons, every other Saturday starting February 21st.

Community Supported Agriculture

If you can’t make it out for the market experience every week, maybe consider joining a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program such as Blue Sky Farms. A CSA program is an arrangement under which the members of a community can support a farmer by paying for weekly shares of the harvest in advance to help cover farming costs. Then you get a guaranteed weekly share to pick up after harvest.

Special Delivery

To make getting organic, local produce even easier, there is now a company that will deliver your weekly farm share right to the Verrado Coffee Company for you to pick up every Thursday between 2:00 and 5:00. Register with Chow Locally by Monday to get your Chow Share delivered every Thursday. The share is always a fun variety from local farms and you get to preview the selection on Mondays before you commit for the week.

With all these great options, eating healthy is now easier than ever!
