Summer programs from fitness to science abound in and around Verrado

Verrado SwimSummertime is awesome for a number of reasons, but one of the best is that kids have time to discover activities and interests they might not have time to explore when they are otherwise occupied with school and homework.

We’re lucky to have a number of summer programs available right in Verrado, and several more are offered in the greater West Valley area. Here are seven programs and activities that you and your child will want to consider.

Ignite Yoga is sponsoring “Go with the Flow” kids summer camps June 10-12 and June 17-19 from 9 a.m. to noon at The Center on Main. It’s a series of six summer-themed workshops that include a combination of craft, music, dramatic play, and yoga movement activities. Each class is $25. Strength training is a vital part of a balanced exercise routine that includes aerobic activities and flexibility exercises. Kids ages 11-16 who are active in sports or who simply want to get in shape can improve their athleticism over the summer at I.M.P.A.C.T. Camp. This free (yes, you read that correctly) camp is offered every Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 13 through Aug. 1 at The Center on Main multipurpose room. There is no better way to cool off in the summer than joining the Vitras Summer Swim Team that meets at the Center on Main in Verrado. The team focuses on swimmer development by using swimming as a vehicle to push young athletes to new limits. | More info

Nothing goes better together in the summer than a movie and a swim. Vitras Swim Club is hosting a dive-in movie night, featuring Despicable Me 2, on Sunday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at The Center on Main play pool. Admission is free and popcorn and snacks will be available for purchase. | More Info

For the budding entertainer or actor, Anderson Institute of Music & Performing Arts is offering a number of music and theater camps for kids ages 6 to 18. With seven to choose from, one is bound to fit into your summer schedule. Prices vary by session. | More Info

Art of design, plunge into Spanish, science forces, and cinematic productions are the intriguing summer mini-camps The Goddard School is offering to school age kids. The Monday-Friday camps are offered throughout June and July from 9 a.m. to noon at their Buckeye campus. At $200 per camp, they’re reasonably priced, too. | More Info

High school-level athletes are invited to train with Verrado High School coaches over the summer. The focus will be on speed and strength conditioning during the Monday-Thursday program that runs from June 2 through July 17. The summer program is $100. | More Info

Teens will also want to RSVP for Teen T.R.E.K.S. – a program designed for teens to with exciting excursions that combine fun, learning, and giving back to the community. | More Info

The Teen Summer Drop-In Program at Youngker High School gym is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Teens will enjoy fitness and recreation activities like basketball and volleyball and is supervised by Buckeye Police Department school resource officers. The free program runs five weeks June 2- July 11, except for the July 4 holiday week. | More Info
