The 8th Annual Spirit of Independence at Verrado Out Shines the Rain

This year’s 4th of July celebration in Verrado certainly was a memorable one! The storm clouds broke just long enough to allow Verrado’s July 4th Children’s Bike Parade to fill Main Street with creatively and colorfully decorated wheels of all shapes and sizes.

After the National Anthem – sung by the Westside Children’s Choir, directed by Anderson Institute of Music – 270 children (our largest parade yet!) followed Buckeye Fire Department’s Dalmatian Fire Truck occupied by the staff and students from The Goddard School around the Village Green for this hometown tradition.

Many of the red, white and blue adornments were supplied by The Goddard School at the July 3rd Bike Decorating Party, where parade go-ers prepared for the fun morning ahead. The beautiful morning was topped off with a delicious pancake breakfast at Ground Control and refreshing ice cream from Verrado Realty.

The downpour following the Parade may have put a damper on our community’s outdoor Fete & Fireworks Celebration, but some quick thinking and collaboration between the Verrado Assembly and the Raven Golf Club at Verrado teams provided over 100 residents a dry, indoor BBQ with live music, and allowing some of our Spirit of IndependenceTM traditions to carry on.

The Apple Pie Baking Contest, organized by resident leader Carmen Abogado (Jackson Green), had 14 adult entries and 4 youth entries. In the late afternoon and evening, the weather remained clear, allowing the highly anticipated fireworks display to light up the sky above the Raven Golf Club, giving Verrado family and friends a front row view.
