Youth Tri Bike ClinicFor many reasons, Verrado has been deemed a highly active community, and now resident volunteers have collaborated to bring an opportunity for local youth to engage in healthy competition and test their skills at swimming, biking and running in Verrado’s inaugural Youth Triathlon.

Sarah Byers, Vitras swim coach and leader of the Youth Triathlon Club, led the effort in bringing this experience to fruition. In partnership with Ignite Yoga and Vitras Swim Club, the Youth Triathlon has joined the agenda of the 3rd Annual Art of Movement event on Saturday, November 15. The Youth Triathlon kicks off the day-long health and wellness event at 8:00 a.m. All event proceeds benefit the Athletic and Arts Departments at Verrado Middle School and Verrado Elementary School.

The Youth Triathlon Club was formed this past spring at which time club leaders, Jeffrey Gill and Jeff and Sarah Byers, hosted triathlon training camps for kids to get their “feet wet.” Coaching in all three sports, transitioning, and safety prepared club members for participating in a race. Not only did the youth enjoy the activities, but they left begging for more.

In late June the club held its’ first mini triathlon at which time it was decided Verrado was ready to take it to the next level and the organizing of the first community-wide youth triathlon began.
